July 1st is just around the corner. Here are some of the country’s biggest and best celebrations from coast to coast.

Oh, Canada! Across the country, Canadians will be celebrating what has made our nation great for 156 years! And while the day is honoured in every city and town in Canada, here are six of the biggest and banging-est ways to celebrate.

1. VANCOUVER, BC

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: Appropriately enough, Vancouver’s Canada Day celebrations centre around downtown Canada Place, with live music, food vendors, and cultural performances. The highlight of the event is a fireworks display that lights up the sky over Coal Harbour, which is hopefully back on after a few years of hiatus. Wanna add some spiciness to the festivities? Check out the 4-hour Canada Day Latin x Brazilian Boat Party.

2. CALGARY, AB

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: There’s fun for the whole family on Canada Day in Calgary’s St. Patrick’s Island Park, with plenty of music, art, and theatre. And, of course, that culminates with a fireworks display over the Bow River. If you ever need a reason to believe that Canada is a beautiful country to behold, a view of the Rocky Mountains ought to do it!

3. OTTAWA, ON

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: When it comes to celebrating Canada Day, the nation’s capital is a no-brainer right? Ottawa is home to the biggest Canada Day celebration in the country. All the festivities take place on iconic Parliament Hill (as they have for the past 50 years!), including a flag-raising ceremony, a parade that winds its way through downtown Ottawa, live music from top Can-Con talent, cultural performances, visits from dignitaries, and a massive fireworks display over the Ottawa River that will have you oohing and aahing.

4. TORONTO, ON

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: As Canada’s largest city with a population of almost 3 million, it’s no surprise that Toronto also boasts a huge celebration for Canada Day. Live music, food trucks, and more fill both Nathan Phillips Square outside City Hall and Mel Lastman Square in North York. Since Toronto is the country’s (and perhaps the world’s) most multicultural city, you can also expect to see Canada’s rich diversity on full display in terms of food, dance, and music. The grand finale is a spectacular fireworks display that lights up Canada’s most famous skyline.

5. MONTREAL, QC

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: Montreal celebrates Canada Day with a massive street party in its signature style. The Canada Day Show in Old Port includes Algonquin music, Latin sounds, pop, and Acadian folk to create a thrilling sonic buzz in the city. There’s also Canadian Armed Forces salute, activities presented by Parks Canada, a parade, and the traditional sharing of the Canada Day cake.

6. HALIFAX, NS

WHAT MAKES IT GREAT: Halifax’s KANA’TA: Canada Day 2023 celebrations offer programming that honours the traditions of the Mi’kmaw Nation and pan-Indigenous communities. This year’s program includes the Mawio’mi on the Halifax Waterfront, a Dartmouth Summer Sunshine Series free concert, a genre-spanning concert at the Halifax Waterfront. Look up to see the Snowbirds’ first-ever Air Show over the Halifax Harbour and the return of the fireworks show.
