We’ve added six tasty new treats to our Localicious program. Here’s why you should try them out – and get stories behind their creation.

We love sharing locally-made creations through our Localicious program. It lets us support local snack makers, while introducing our customers to unique new products made in their province. And this summer, we’re introducing six new must-try snacks from across Canada. Let’s check them out and find out more about who makes them!

1. MHMT from Medicine Hat, Alberta.

WHAT IT IS: Soft jerky that’s high in protein and low in fat, made in flavours like Dill Pickle, Honey Garlic, and Teriyaki

WHO MAKES IT: The origins MHMT (or Medicine Hat Meat Traders Ltd.) began with the founding of the family-owned cattle ranch in 1932. Putting generations of beef expertise to good use, they began making their award-winning jerky in 2006.

WHY IT’S THE PERFECT SNACK: Get the protein you need to fuel your workout, while hiking in Alberta’s iconic mountains.

2. The Cotton Candy Shoppe from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

WHAT IT IS: Fluffy, sweet nostalgia! Cotton Candy captures childhood memories of the fair
in every mouthful.

WHO MAKES IT: The Cotton Candy Shoppe, Alberta’s premier Cotton Candy Maker.

WHY IT’S THE PERFECT SNACK: TCCS has really upped the cotton candy ante with over 90 flavours, including Blue Raspberry, Gummi Bear, and Root Beer. They also have organic sugar options.

3. Nutty Club from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

WHAT IT IS: When it’s right, it’s right. And that’s true of Nutty Club’s signature collection of classic candy, popcorn, and, of course, nuts!

WHO MAKES IT: Scott-Bathgate Ltd. was created by two Winnipeg businessmen, A. E. Scott and J. L. Bathgate, in the early 1900s. And since the 1930s, their Nutty Club brand has been synonymous with quality confections!

WHY IT’S THE PERFECT SNACK: Introduce your kids to some of your favourite snacks growing up.

4. Sapsucker Organic Sparkling Tree Water from Flesherton, Ontario.

WHAT IT IS: Organic sparkling tree water. What exactly is tree water, you ask? It is water tapped right from maple trees in Ontario and Quebec, slightly sweet and naturally nutrient-rich.

WHO MAKES IT:  In 2014, the Lower Valley Beverage Company, in Flesherton, Ontario, was created by two families, The Chapmans and McGlaughlins. Their goal: to create a sustainable product and to protect the land where they source Sapsucker water.

WHY IT’S THE PERFECT REFRESHMENT: Not all water is created equal. Sapsucker is loaded with minerals and antioxidants, with a hint of natural flavours and tongue-tingling bubbles.

5. Nickel City Cheese from Chelmsford, Ontario

WHAT IT IS: Freshly made curds and other cheeses.

WHO MAKES IT: Nicole Paquin, the award-winning cheese-maker from Quebec, who opened her business in 2018.

WHY IT’S THE PERFECT SNACK: They’re bite-size, tasty morsels that come in over 20 flavours including dill, BBQ, smoked, jalapeno, and maple bacon.

6. Vitali-T from Laval, Quebec.

WHAT IT IS: Nourishing, healthy oatmeal snacks and cookies that can fuel your family’s summertime adventures.

WHY IT’S THE PERFECT SNACK: Since Vitali-T snacks are all lactose-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, and vegan, they fit right into everyone’s diet.

WHO MAKES IT: Founded in 2015, Vitali-T was created by fitness enthusiasts and entrepreneurial power couple, François Pageau and Sara Dagenais. They also appeared on an episode of Quebec’s Dans l’oeil du dragon.
